Analysis of factors affacting steam explosion in semi-confined space

Abstract: In order to investigate the mechanism of steam explosion in industry,an simulated experimental system for spontaneous explosion of massive molten aluminum and water in semi-confined space was designed.A high speed digital visualization system was employed to obtain the information on the explosive interaction under different conditions.The effects of the relative mass,the temperature,the vessel material and metal oxide on explosion were studied.The results show that the critical explosive condition and temperature have been obtained for explosion of massive molten aluminum and water in semi-confined space,that carbon steel with high wettability promotes base-triggered explosion,and the metal oxide with high water solubility also promotes explosive interaction,compared to non-metal oxide.
