Abstract: To explore the starch cloud combustion inhibition effects and inhibition mechanism of dry water materials a kind of dry water material was prepared from white carbon, and experiments were carried out by using a small-scale vertical pipe experiment system and a data acquisition system.Effects of the dry water material were studied on flame morphology, flame temperature, and flame propagation speed of wheat starch cloud. The experimental results show that the dry water material can reduce both the maximum flame temperature and the maximum propagation speed of wheat starch flame, that the mainly physical inhibition by the dry water material is the vaporization of the water from the dry water material and the heat insulation of hydrophobic silica particles with nanometer dimensions, that the inhibition effect of dry water material increases firstly and then decreases slightly with the increasing of wheat starch dust concentration, and that the optimal effect is obtained when the mass concentration of starch is 400 g/m3.
