Experimental study on characteristics of edible oil pool fires different in diameter

Abstract: In order to explore the prevention, detection and extinguishing technology of edible oil fires, edible pool fires different in diameter were tested. The parameters of oil layer temperature, flame and plume temperature, mass loss rate and flame height were measured. The combustion characteristics of edible pool fires were analyzed, including the development process of edible oil pool from heating to spontaneous combustion to combustion, the change of the temperature of the oil layer, the temperature of the flame and the fire plume flow, the rate of the mass loss. The effect of diameter of oil pan on burning rate of the edible oil pool fire was analyzed. The heat release rates corresponding to different diameters of oil pan were calculated with theoretical formula. The results show that the maximum burning rate of edible oil pool fire is about 2.3 mm/min, and the heat release rates of edible oil pool fires with 25, 40, 55, 70 and 85 cm diameter are 20, 60, 190, 375 and 55 kW respectively.
