Abstract: In order to study the compression characteristics of super-thick alluvium and its influence on mining subsidence, triaxial compression tests were conducted on the surface cohesive soil in Jiaozuo mining area.Based on the experimental results,a numerical simulation of the mining subsidence of a certain working face under super-thick alluvium was performed.Mechanism of surface subsidence under super-thick alluvium was also analyzed theoretically. The results show that there is a compression phenomenon in alluvium and the compression amount increases with the increase of the thickness of alluvium, resulting in an increase in surface subsidence, and that the self-compression characteristics of the alluvium are the main factor resulting the large subsidence of surface when mining under super-thick alluvium.
